My Background
After earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, I joined a study program for physical therapy in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I thought I would just work as a physical therapist in the Netherlands after I graduate. However, after several internships I felt creatively stifled. The job of a physical therapist does not allow for building or creating. Even though the knowledge I gained from physical therapy has been very useful, I needed a more artistic outlet. Around this time, I happened to move to LA due to family circumstances, and found that LA has a wealth of technology companies that are in need of interaction designers. An interaction designer builds systems that humans can use intuitively and efficiently. Application of interaction design seems endless. Systems such as mobile applications also require graphics to make them intuitive for humans. Building these systems looks like a perfect job for me, who finds joy in both technology and art. With skills I have learned so far, and those that I hope to learn, I have confidence that I will become a great interaction designer (and let's hope my PT background will protect my hands from overuse injuries)
