I feel as though shopping carts are one of the most underrated objects we use in our everyday lives. From grocery shopping to home decor shopping, these irregular, metal rolling carts are able to fit so many things due to their depth. However, we do not realize that this simple design can do so much more than just carry items! Shopping carts have the ability to insert easily into another cart, open itself in order to sit a baby/toddler, and most have a bottom compartment for extra heavy items.

But how much weight can an average shopping cart really carry? In a demonstration on Hydraulic Press Channel, they added over 1,000 pounds (453 kg) to a wire shopping cart and it did not collapse. It was only after adding another 450 pounds to the cart that it finally gave in and collapsed. So, let’s take a moment and appreciate these heavy-duty rolling thingys, we call shopping carts!
