The local restaurant I chose is one in my tiny unincorporated town of Westchester (part of city of Los Angeles) called Olive it. I chose it because It’s a wonderful locally owned and operated sandwich shop that has a lot of home made items and it’s reasonably priced and walking distance from my home. Been eating here for almost 20 years.
The first thing I noticed about their site is, well, they don’t have one. The only ‘site’ they had for me to go on was their TripAdvisor and Yelp Sites so I used those both. TA gave more information about the shop itself, including the menu. Yelp had more images of the shop.
For my Competative Analysis I used a couple other local shops that had sites: Ayara Thai (decent food. Like them because they remember I have a peanut allergy and substitute cashews); Café Solar (their website is WEIRD); The Coffee Company (this place is on point). Both Ayara and The Coffee company have decent easy to navigate website with an obvious hierarchy so your eye knows where to look. They don’t have fancy interactive bits but they get the job done. A user knows what to expect on the other side of each link and they are visual pleasing.
The goals of this site is to increase carry out and catering orders. The target audience are locals on lunch breaks in the area. More specifically patrons who are interested in home style lunches with no frills and meals with fresh, local ingredients.
The main task will be just to create an actual website itself since one doesn’t exist. While it’s okay to have a yelp or facebook page for you website, having a website establishes a brand more substantially. Plus it’s just nicer than ‘hey come to my facebook page.
