GETTING TO KNOW U(RL): MY BACKGROUND
Hello, my name is Jiashi. I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. I moved to the United States in 2013. I lived with my sister in Jonesboro, AR for about a year, and then I realized that I can't stand living in the middle of nowhere so I moved to Los Angeles, CA.
I took 8 years off between highschool and college (due to migration, work, ummm pretty much just life) until I finally decided to apply for the graphic design program at SMC in 2018. I was nervous about going back to school at first because I wasn't good at it before, and I used to think that I'm a little too late to the party (starting college at age 25) but I grew over that insecurity eventually, and realized that I love and value learning now more than ever so I should just enjoy the process.
Anyway, I remember how I used to enjoy designing the layout of my blog and manipulate photos using Photoshop when I was in highschool, so I figured graphic design is something I'd be interested in. But after taking a few classes here in there, I learned about user experience - understanding how users interact with and perceive a product or system - and became interested in it. So now I'm working towards getting into iXD hopefully next year.
When I'm not designing, I love traveling and taking photographs. I focus on landscapes, animals, astrophotography, and a little bit of portrait. Check out my Instagram to see some of my works. :D
