Kato is a Taiwanese, Japanese fusion restaurant located in Santa Monica California, they are a Michelin star rated restaurant that specializes in small plates made with fresh ingredients
Link to websiteThe websites patio reservations section clearly states location and hours and has a very noticeable button prompting visitors to make a reservation. The contact page is functional and to the point. The website does a good job highlighting important information with its use of bolded text, making it hard if not impossible to miss. And lastly, the current website does a very good job portarying the minimal image/aesthetic.
The website is too simple. When first arriving to the site you'll have no idea what the website is for since there is just a picture of a fish. There is no indication that this is a restaurant apart from the url, and there is no information about the type or style of food sold. There are no pictures of the food or the location. The menu is very simple and not very eye catching. And there are no links to any social media pages.
The website, overall, lacks content. It mostly consists of text with a picture of the same fish. The fonts are all around the same size and in an dark gray color that is similar to the background.
The home page lacks any call-to-action prompts. There is no suggestion to sign up for mailing list, nor any links to follow them on social media or prompts to quickly learn how to contact them.
Th website is simple, easy to understand and functions well. It has very straight forward navigation.
There is no indication as to wether the resturant has any social media presence.
The goal of the new website is to attract new customers to the restuarant. The current design seems to be targeting people who are probably already familiar with the restaurant and the food that they sell. The new website will be more informative, have more pictures, increase community building by including links to social media pages, and be more eye catching and interactive, while still maintaining the minimalist aesthetic.
The target audience are sophisticated, relatively adventurous dinners, who enjoy a minimal, fresh and straight to the point dining experience, that also includes complex flavors while also highlighting the main ingredients.
The task that would need to be completed before the completion of the website would be to take professional photos of the food and the resturant, and to create social media pages.
This restuarant does a good job displaying pictures of the food and showing what they have to offer. They make it very clear of the services that they offer, such as delivery and pick up, as well as having an interactive map plugin showing the restuarants location. The menu screen and order functions are easy to use. The menu is well laid out and organized, and easy to navigate. Overall, the website is a simple basic desgin, but very functional and informative.
This website has a very simple design. It's homepage does well with highlighting the type of cuisine sold at the resturant, along with a very noticable menu bar leading to the other pages of the site. It has good call to action options on the homepage with the call us button right in the middle of the page. They have pictures of their dining area along with a photo of the outside of the restuarant, which is good for new customers. They also did well with including their social media links for community building.
This website also has a very simple straight to the point design. It's homepage displays important information very clearly and the menu bar is noticable and functional. The menu page is very detailed, and includes pictures which I find to be very helpful. I felt having the hours in the contact section is redundant since the hours are well highlighted on the homepage. They don't mention whether they have a social media presence but I liked the addition of the link to their yelp page.
This website does well with its call to actions on the homepage with having a pop-up box with the options for takeout and delivery. It also does well with alerting visitors to its response to the covid situation by having the red bar at the bottom of the screen. The homepage is very informative and makes the vital information very clear and easy to find. Their community building prompts are nicely integrated into the homepage and are located in the footer which shows up on each page. One thing I had an issue with is with the menu bar. You can't click on the menu item and navigate to a different page, you have to select an item from the drop down menu in order to be taken to a new page. Overall, the website is very informative, they did well with including a variety of pictures, and including links on how to keep up with them on social media.
