I choose the café Spoon by H.
Spoon by H is a café located on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. They are serving baked goods & delicious waffles but also food such as bowls with noodles, meat, and vegetables.
The first thing I saw on the café Spoon by H’s website, is that it lacks inspiration and good information. It’s really short and only has one single image on the website, which is a header. The picture is not “stuck” and doing something nice for the design, it’s super plane and kind of boring. I also realized that the logo they are using on the site is not the same logo as outside the actual café, which can confuse customers, especially new ones.
The colors that they’ve chosen for the current website is:
Cerise pink
Turquoise
White
Black
The background on the website is white, which for me seems a bit to clean for a café website. It doesn’t give you that cozy, nice feeling that you want to get.
I would prefer to use more pink, maybe a brown chocolate color, a creamy vanilla color to make it pop more, and represent the delicious waffles and pastry that they are selling.
Overall really liked the design (not including colors) but how they built up the homepage
Nice topbar menu
Navigation is really easy
Images on the waffles are popping on by one, after each other. Nice element
Some pictures are PDF with transparent background, looks really nice
The picture on the Premium Belgian Chocolate is stuck (not moving)
Love how the website has a house, floors, and rooms. For example on one floor, it is 2 rooms with an image on half of the screen, and on the other half it’s another says for example “Our Toppings” with a plain background color. Looks really nice
They have multiple CTA (Call to action) such as “Menu” and “Order Now”
Social media symbols are to the right on the website and stuck, so they are following you down even though you are scrolling through
- Cons
The picture behind the waffles on the top looks dated and old
Some of the pictures lack good quality
The colors and typefaces aren’t the same on all the pages such as “About”, “How it works”, “Order Online” = feels a bit messy
Scrolled down too fast, you had to focus not to scroll past the information you were looking for
Topbar menu could have been a bit bigger, the text is too small
No CTA
Goals & Target Audience
The goal for the website is to get more attention to the café Spoon by H, and make more people wanting to go there. The goal of rebranding the café is to make the visit an experience. I want it to feel new, modern, and add something extra to it. I want the interior to be pink and I want to have big flower walls where people can take photos,- and of course, tag us on Instagram! The interior design will make people come to this place for its uniqueness, even from other places, cities, or countries. We will offer influencers to come and eat & drink for free if they tag us in their stories on Instagram. And they are going to come since the interior creates content on another level.
Instead of having a lot of different things on the menu, I will cut out a lot of food and focus mostly on for example delicious waffles with strawberries & American pancakes with chocolate. Spoon by H will also serve also fresh juices, salads, and other more healthy alternatives. We will not have any meat on the menu (as they have right now), we want everything to feel as Spoon by H wrote on their website, fresh:
“Spoon By H is a family-owned cafe where we prepare everything fresh from the best ingredients available. All of our baked goods and dishes are made from scratch and our dishes are made to order. Come stop by, say hello, and try something amazing!”
The target customer will mainly be girls who likes cute aesthetics. But this place will be an experience on a new level, so I can think of a lot of different target customers.
