RESTAURANT RESEARCH
Index
My Restaurant
California Pizza Kitchen is the restaurant I will be working on.
What works
- I like how there is a downloadable menu option for the adults and children.
- The simplicity of the color scheme and sans serif type make the pictures really pop.
- The tiny icons for the food that is a customer favourite, vegetarian, or gluten-free.
- The image of the dish can be found by clicking the little camera icon next to each name (this allows for more space for the other dishes).
What doesnt work
- There are too many sub pages that could easily be fit into one page (like the gift card pages).
- When I clicked on the menu page it asks me to put in a location to see if the items are available, then takes me to the location page, THEN gives me the menu of that specific location. There are too many steps to take to be able to see what is available (especially if all you want is just a pizza).
- The pages are too long and scrolling down so much to find the things I want annoys me. The large headers with the pictures and white type on top take a lot of space (and sometimes the type blends in with the background).
- The back to the top button on the bottom right is too discreet.
- The About Us page can either be located on the bottom of the page or through the fundraisers page (and even then, I feel like that menu bar under the header is too discreet).
- I think some things are not important enough to be on the main navigation (like the fundraisers page or the gift card page). When people go on this site it will mainly be to see the dishes served, where the stores are, and if they can order online.
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Little Caesars
What works
- The menu is immediately available and you do not have to look hard to find what you want.
Pizza Hut
What works
- The prices are listed.
- Within the pizza page, there is filtering option on the toppings (meats, chicken, veggie).
- The find a pizza hut page is interesting because it allows customers to see if there is a delivery, carryout, or dine-in all on one page.
- The gift card page fits on 1 page.
Dominos
What works
- The typographic visuals are eye catching.
- The horizontal sub menu that has all the food listed so that the customer can instantly change category.
- They have a lot of food options so the mosaic system they have helps save space.
GOALS + TARGET AUDIENCE
Goals: Attract more clients by showcasing their wide variety of dishes.
Audience: Anyone old enough to buy pizza, vegetarians, and people with a gluten-free diet.
What should be done:
- Navigation must be simpler.
- The navigation bar should give more emphasis on the pages that matter (location, menu, ordering online, etc…)
- Customers shouldn’t have to scroll so much to find the food they want.
