I visited dozens of churches and cathedrals in Italy, but this is one of the few that left an impression on me. The confrontation between nature and Renaissance architecture is dreamlike.

A fascinating and beguilling monstrosity. A monument to avarice and decadence. Reminds me of Werner Herzog's insistence that creators must “not avert our eyes”
