Gale’s Restaurant (Garavaggio)

The restaurant I would design would be the Italian restaurant, Gale's Restaurant. For copyright purposes, I would rename the restaurant to Garavaggio's Restaurant because it is more sound, appealing, and appropriate for an Italian restaurant.

The current state of the website is simple and intuitive. What I noticed the first thing I got in the home page are the quotes. Right off the bat you know the website wants to show off their reputation. That shouldn't be the case and the food and environment should be the first thing to be showcased. I like the fact that the menu bar is responsive throughout the website. It is also efficient because there no new pages have to be opened when each of the menu bar options are clicked. The picture on the home page works well with the whole aesthetics of the website. The restaurant's canopy title on the home page overpowers the logo which should be the other way around. There is a confusion between what the main logo of the restaurant is. I would redesign the website to have just one logo to be used on the website, photographs, and flyers. In the spirit of redesigning, I would also change the font style, because it is generic and not Italian like. A font alternative would be Lato because it has thin profiles and smooth curves, and it also has a sophisticated feel which makes the font be taken seriously. It seems like the current state of the website is going for a minimal look. So minmal that there are barely any pictures. People like seeing pictures of food because it helps visualize the selections of food the restaurant has to offer. I would redesign the website to have a sliasdeshow with an array of food, also every other picture would be the interior or exterior of the restaurant. I would also change the hierarchy of some items. For example, I would make finding locations a priority on the home page, then menu, about page, and then social media accounts. I like the functionality of booking a table on the home page with a third party application, OpenTable, which makes the website stand out.

Right when I got to the home page of this website I already feel like I'm already in the restaurant. This responsive website used a photo of a prepared dining table with candle light to digitally showcase what a dining experience would feel. The use of an elegant font for the navigation menu fits really well with the whole aesthetics of the website. Functionality wise, the website works well, it has indicators so users are able to pinpoint their locations on the website. Another functionality would be using the UBER eats to order food. The enlarging of pictures makes the website much appealing and welcoming. What threw me off was the content hierarchy on the home page, the home page makes the user make a reservation without going through the pictures, first, also there are awards showcase to indicate a high reputation which should be last in the home page. There aren't any "call-to-action" pop-ups to indicate the user that there is happy hour or to purchase gift cards. At the very end of the page the website implements a community building(social media). What is really great about this website is the separation of Menus. For example there is a seperate menus for LUNCH, DINNER, DESSERT, and BAR. This makes the website very organized.

What is distinct with this website compared to others is how they prioritize finding locations. Which means this restaurant has many locations. I also think the website has nice pictures and colors that go well with the photograph. Most importantly this website makes me hungry. It also implements functioanlities like ordering online, location, and reservations. The font that is being used throughout the website is appropriate for the Italian website which makes the website cohesive. This responsive website becomes navigation friendly when the window becomes smaller. The logo is used throughout the navigation of each page which gives brand awareness to the restaurant. Community building is also used throughout through the use of eClub and social media at the footer of each page. This indicates that the website uses a master page.

I started off using the integrity of this website as responsive website. It's very simple with minimal choices such as MENU, LOCATIONS, and CATERING. As I unravel the full site. It became more complex. Complexities such as a dynamic slideshow that showcases food and drinks as well as using geometrica panels that holds the logo and menu navigation makes the website gratifying on the eyes. Removing background content on food makes the user want to grab the food out of the website. The user interface are harmonic with the background and the photography. The use of functionalities such as changing the zip code and sharing are and also implementation of a like button for facebook makes the website dynamic. There is a call to action on the home page for selecting locations which is appropriate if customers want to find the nearest restaurant. The use of pictures in and alongside geometrical shapes is one of the main integrations on this website which paves the way in good design.

Goals

The goal for this website is to be a more responsive website so this website can cater to mobile devices and other handheld devices. Another goal would to be aesthetically pleasing to be able to be compared to other Italian websites. Last goals would be to bring in more customers through the implementation of a community and website reinvention.

Target Audience

The target audience are mostly people interested in finding  alternatives to other Italian food such as Buca di beppo and Italians who want to enjoy fine Italian Dating. The secondary audience would be couple's that are looking for a place to fine dine, drink wine, and eat deserrts.

Solutions

What questions need to be answered in order to complete this project?

The answers that need to be answered is “What is the most efficient way to create this website?”,“Do we have enough resources to meet the demands of the client?”, “Are we able to create a responsive website that is suitable for mobile devices?”, “Should create iterations of the wesbite and logo so the client would have  a variety of choices?”

What tasks do we need to complete in order to successfully design this website?

The tasks we need to complete in order to successfully design the website is create a responsive versions of the website. Also be able to create different layouts as well as testing out different hierarchical systems of different placements of elements. Also be able to use high-fidelity photography to be implemented on the sldieshows.

What issues need to be solved?

The issues need to be solved are creating better navigation menu, generic fonts, bad hierachy of elements, too minimal, need to be dynamic. Use of call to action to catch the attention of the customer. Minimal use of text. Have ratings on a seperate page and establish a community.
